I want to see this!
——————————-
Behold the power of art. Lost in Paradise has been making some waves in Vietnam recently, with filmgoers reportedly flocking to see the story of a doomed love affair between a gay prostitute and a book seller in Saigon. From director Ngoc Dang Vu, the film is groundbreaking within the context of Vietnamese cinema, being among the first in the country to depict gay love both explicitly and in a positive light. At once, a symbol of changing times and a vehicle that can help to effect change, Lost in Paradise is on the right side of history. From Gay Star News:
Quynh Bang, from Saigon, says attitudes to homosexuality are softening and the changes are coming from the younger generation. The 28 year old mother said: ‘The younger generation have a broader outlook already. ‘Gay couples can live together openly but they cannot show public displays of affection – something which is frowned upon in Vietnamese society even for straight couples.’
